Diabetes and lifestyle: How to keep control?

Diabetes can be at any age, but after the age of 30 diabetes is common among new generation people. It can be cured or avoid if one follow strict lifestyle in his/her  life. Diabetes may be in children or in pregnant woman. A diabetes expert should be consulted for better consultation and treatment.

Symptoms: You may not find any symptoms at initial stage for diabetes but later on you can find following symptoms:

1. Tiredness
2. Frequent urination
3. Pain in legs
4. Sudden increase/decrease in weight
5. Increase Thirst
6. Numbness and Tingling
7. Blurred Vision.


Precautions:

Food to avoid : Foods having Sugar, high oil/fat food & Rice.
You can take brown rice in diet or can add some vegetables in white rice to balance the sugar.

In fruits : Avoid  Mango, Banana, Chiku and Grapes. Other fruits you can eat.

Exercise/workout recommended : One should walk at least 10,000 steps daily. 40 Minutes work out daily (Jogging, Exercise etc). A outdoor game/play will be good option.

Routine diet:

Breakfast : Milk (Double Toned), 2 Chapati, Fruit etc.( Don't skip breakfast)
Lunch: 3 Chapati, Curd, Vegetable, Salaad and Brown Rice.
Evening Break:. A Tea/Fruit with some 2 Sugar free biscuit.
Dinner: 3 Chapati, Vegetable/Daal, Salaad and Curd/Butter milk,

When to Checkup:

After the age of 30, one should go for checkup for diabetes.
A pregnant woman should go for checkup.

In a recent study in Kashi Hindu Ayurvedic University, Uttar Pradesh. After a reasearch done by Dean Prof. TP Chaturvedi. It was found that the oral Diseases which promotes oral cancer can be treated very well with the help of Tulsi, Turmeric and glycerin.
The same treatment is going on in Sir sunderlal dental hospital under the guidance of Prof. Chaturvedi.
The study and research was done on number of patients coming with the symptoms of diseases in oral cavity. They were treated with oral application of the the paste of Tulsi, Turmeric and Glycerin on the affected area. After few months. It was found that maximum number of patients found this treatment very effective. Prof explained that the treatment is very cost effective Just in Rs. 2000/- .

Gastric Problem : How to get Relief ?

Gastric problem is the common problem among mid age people due to their eating life style. About 30-40% people are suffering from gastric problem. When gas is produced in the stomach, it is difficult to sustain with the pain, upset stomach and restlessness.
Causes: it is said that it may be due to the breakdown of undigested food by bacteria in and due to swallowed air during eating or chewing. Some time some food is left undigested ( or take time to digest) due to absence of some enzymes or with some other problem.
Other possible cause of gas production:
  1. undigested milk can also produce gas
  2. some medicines also produce gas.
Symptoms: 
Belching (occasional release of gas after meal or may be due to some stomach illness), Bloating (due to intestinal disorder), abdominal pain (left side of the colon), heaviness, loss of appetite, dullness, lethargic and flatulence (too much gas production some time a foul smell) due to carbohydrate malabsorption/impaired digestion o food.
Herbs for gastric problem:
Ajwain (Carum copticum), adrak (zingiber officinale),  lavanga (Syzgium aromaticum), amla phyllanthus emblica) and black peeper piper nigrum)

Ayurvedic supplements: Hingwastak Churana, Ajwain Ark, Gas guard and gaisantak bati.

Home base treatments:

  1. Mix roasted cumin seeds powder, black salt, celery seeds and ginger powder to make powder to consume with luke warm water for the benefits of gastric situation.
  2. Lime juice with dried ginger and celery seeds (ajwain) dried and mixed it to make powder and to consume with luke warm water.
  3. Mix hing (asafetida)  (as per taste) with celery seeds and black salt and make powder to consume with luke warm water helps in stomach pain and gastric condition.

Prescription in food :
  1. Take easily digestible food.
  2. Drink warm water, eat fruits and then proper diet after some days.
  3. Avoid raw food.
  4. Cook the food properly before consuming.
  5. Chew the food properly before consuming.
  6. Avoid late night dinner and don't sleep just after dinner.
  7. Add like hing (asafedtida), cardamom, celery seeds and cumin seeds in food while cooking.

Food Diet for pregnant woman




For a healthy baby to be born. you must keep yourself healthy during pregnancy. Your child is the part of your body when your are pregnant. So it is necessary that your body should supply all the important nutrients  important for the growth of the fetus (foetus). About 300-350 extra calories/day are required to handle the changes in your body and child development.






The food/diet should contain:

  1. Protein- Protein is required for the development of child, brain development and for pregnant mother also. Soya products, grains, legumes, beans,  meat, fish, milk and milk products. You can add 25-30 gm of proteins by taking all protein rich foods.
  2. Fat-Fat is required for development of body of child. (should be limited)
  3. Calcium-for the development of bones, Muscles, heart and nerves  and other parts of the body.
  4. Sugar- For the proper growth of the body.
  5. Vitamin D- Vitamin D is important for bones and teeth. you should have good exposure of sunlight to gain vitamin D beside this Vitamin D rich food should be consumed.
  6. Folic Acid- About 400 Miligram recommended for the pregnant woman. you should consume foods high in folate like cereals,bread and grain products. Fruits and vegetables also contain folic acid so should be included in diet. It prevent neural tube birth defects.
  7. Iron-for the blood. The iron rich food (Green Leafy vegetables, grains, whole grains, beans) should be consumed.
  8. Dry fruits and vitamins can be included in the diet to get minerals and vitamins.
  9. Fruits and vegetables: To avoid water contamination in fruit juice. fruits should be consumed directly after washing. Fruits and vegetables contains required sugar, vitamins, proteins etc.

Don't worry almost all STD/STI are also curable except AIDS. AIDS is the last stage of STD/STI of infection with HIV.

What is HPV -This is the most common STI in US.
HPV can cause Throat cancer, Genital warts, Cervical cancer an Anal cancer.
HPV is transmitted by unprotected sex (anal, oral and vaginal)

Genital warts are not dangerous but can be treated with many options.

  1. Cyrothearpy
  2. TCA (Trichloracetic acid) treatment on wart.
  3. Electrocautery
  4. Laser therapy
  5. Creams


The Chances of HPV transmission are high when:


  1. Male to male sexual contacts
  2. Sex with many partners (more than one partner)
  3. Sex without protection.
Treatment-No cure but Vaccines are available to be given before the age of 25-26 years. Gardasil is Popular HPV Vaccine. (Not sure in India due to some legal complications).

This Vaccine has some side effects like headache, dizziness, pain or redness at the point of injection and Nausea. (These side effects are not harmful for Human)  



3. Chlamydia -Most popular and frequently bacterial sexually transmitted disease/Infection in world.

 Symptoms in Women-Itching and burning in/near genital area,vaginal discharge and abdominal Pain.
 Symptoms in men- Painful urination and watery discharge

If untreated, it may cause : Sterility in women and men, Pelvic Inflammatory disease (PID) , Pneumonia and Eye infection in new born child from mother  and Nongonococcal urethritis.

Treatment:
Antibiotics are recommended by doctor after observation.


4. Genital Herpes -This is also Most popular viral sexually transmitted diseases in world. This is caused by
    virus that cause Genital herpes.

Genital Herpes are also called genital ulcers can be transmitted very easily through sexual contact from one infected partner to other.
Cause- Caused by Herpes Simplex Virus [HSV-1(Oral) & HSV-2(Genital)]

Symptoms- Herpes may be single or multiple, Sore formation with burning and tingling, blistering, Sore ruptures into ulcer. It is painful.

Treatment: No cure but can be treated with several medications. It is required to avoid sex untill sores/herpes are completely healed/treated.

5.Gonorrhea- Mostly sexually transmitted bacteria disease by sexual contact including vaginal , anal and oral sex from infected partner to healthy partner. The chances of multiplication/infection are less in men than women because there are multiple locations to multiply in women.

Symptoms-In men-Burning and itching sensation in Urethra during urination, Thick pus like discharge from the urethra.
In Women-at initial stage-Green/yellow discharge from cervical area, vaginal irritation and irregularities in menstruation Cycle.

Treatment-Treated with antibiotic injections with  antibiotic medicines. Regular visits/check up are required. If left untreated it may cause PID (Pelvic inflammatory disease), May affect kidney, bladder, Prostrate and testes. It can also cause sterility if untreated. 

6. Hepatitis-It affects liver.
The are five virus Hepatitis A,B,C,D,E.   

Cause- Caused by Virus Hepatitis A,B,C,D, E but Hepatitis B is more dangerous than others.  

Hepatitis A -Transmitted through Contaminated food or water sources.
Hepatitis B-Transmitted through Sexually, blood, semen, vaginal fluid, saliva  kissing and contaminated needles and to new born baby.
Hepatitis C-Transmitted through body fluid and rarely sexually.
Hepatitis C-Transmitted by blood and blood products. It occurs when Hepatitis B has infected the body already.
Hepatitis E-Transmitted through fecal-oral route and food born.

About Hepatitis B- Young age adults are more host for Hepatitis B. It damage the liver if not treated in proper time it can turn sick liver to liver cancer. HBV is more dangerous than HIV. As HBV has no cure.

Symptoms: muscle pain, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, joint pain and nausea,

Treatment.- No cure but vaccine can prevent the infection of HBV and gives protection for life. So it is advisable to take vaccine in young age as a mandatory. Doctor advice for protein and carbohydrate diet and with rest for long time.

7. Syphills

Caused by-Spirochete (Treponema pallidum)

Symptoms -It may have four stages if not treated properly.

First stage-Painless sore (Chancre) at spirochete, Sore  develops to a reddish bump and to a pimple.It may develop to ulcer and pus can come out.
It can occur on Mouth, Anal area, finger, breast and vaginal wall or cervix.
it can be visible for 6 month to come again.

Second stage- Bumpy skin rash with fever headache, sore throat, loss of hair, and swollen lymph nodes.
if not treated at this stage it goes to next stage.

Tertiary stage- Faces serious illness with the infection into other tissues and organs also and it can attack heart, brain, spinal cord, eyes, joints and other areas. It may also cause to blindness, paralysis and psychosis.

Fourth Stage-This is last stage of infection, It is very difficult to treat the disease at this stage.

Treatment- Blood tests are done to identify the infection with syphilis. This is treated with penicillin and other antibiotics. Modern medicines and treatments has reduces the chances of infection to go into life threatening stage.

To prevent this to occur, always do safe sex with the use of condom.
